Notes: history
Guinevere Ainslinn was born in Ireland sometime during the mid-1400s. Until she was eight, she was the only child of a loving couple within a long-standing Witch clan. She gained a little brother when she was eight.
No tragic event ever separated the family, or anything of that sort. The two children grew up and parted ways, though her brother likely remained with their parents for a while longer. Guinevere was quite adventurous in her youth. Although she never returned home but a few times, she still fondly remembers her clan by the sheep skull mask she almost always keeps on her person and the facepaint, which she reapplies every year in a private ceremony.
When she was about 40, Guinevere came into a relatively brief relationship with a warlord. She bore his child, her first and only child. However, when he began to eye another woman, she decided it was best to simply leave them behind, baby and all. The warlord and his woman would not live very long, comparatively speaking. She would. They would be happy together and whoever happened to remain when the other died would not have to wait long to be back with them. The baby would also have a better life here than if it were to come with her on the road. Why ruin their collective happiness? She faked her own death and slipped away into England. Someday, she hopes to find out what has become of her child.
Since then, she's lived all over Europe. She has never had any other children, though she has (sometimes unofficially) adopted more, as several of her lovers have been women. Most of these relationships lasted for the entirety of her partner's life, as she strives to be rather loyal. The only thing she finds disappointing about these relationships rests just in that; they will only live for so long. Another of her hopes, along with finding closure with not only her first child but also her brother (whom she has not spoken to in several centuries), is to find someone as long-lived at herself.
In the late 1930s, Guinevere finally left Europe for America, fearful of the war that was so close (particularly due to the fact that she had recently begun an unofficial relationship with a pregnant woman).
When that woman moved on to a man, Guinevere was more than happy to leave, if it meant giving them peace. She seemed to disappear from the face of the earth, though in actuality she'd found her way to Death City- particularly within its woods, where she lives from a small shack. The land around it is lush, and she grows enough food to sustain herself and sometimes others, though she receives few visitors (much to her disappointment). When there is surplus, she takes it to the city to sell it along with the dolls she sews. This allows her to buy things she might like, though when ends don't exactly meet, she'll take up jobs around the city.
She's hoping to have an actual house, maybe within the city, before the winter comes.
■ Defines herself as panromantic asexual; she will love you no matter what you are, but sex is not really on her agenda anymore. However, she would likely not refuse advances of that sort, particularly when it comes to someone she's particularly close to. ■ The sheep skull mask was a powerful symbol of her clan, in its height. She normally wears it on her head or as an accessory otherwise, but if she has to enter the city, she normally stuffs it into a bag or a pocket, if possible. ■ Guin has a general talent with several musical instruments, namely the guitar and any sort of wind instrument. ■ Guinevere is somewhat possessive over those she's close to; not to the point of being controlling so much as very protective.
"Dreaming of Home" - Philippe Rombi
THE SECRETS I LET OUT Mantra:"Horns of the ram, protect the lamb! Black sheep, be silent under the kind shepherd's keep!" Spells:Guinevere possesses the abilities of spiritual flexibility and soul protect. She also has... - Horns of the Ram -
An offensive area of effect spell, Horns of the Ram, when cast, throws a magical headbutt towards her target. The more powerful the force behind it, the more the ethereal golden "ram" behind it is able to be seen; which is to say that if you are able to see its tail, you do not want to be in its way. It is able to plow down anyone standing within an area of three feet, though it loses its effectiveness as it runs through more people.
- Protect the Lamb -
A defensive area of effect spell, Protect the Lamb puts up a reflective barrier (which resembles the fleece of a golden sheep) wherever Guin indicates. It generally spans twelve feet across and ten feet wide, though she is capable of making it bigger. However, increasing its size takes a lot of focus and can be exhausting, as can using it over and over again. It can only shield its charges from one side, leaving them vulnerable from behind. It is also capable of being pierced, though that would take a rather powerful attack.
- Black Sheep -
An effect-type spell, Black Sheep causes its target to either feel demoralized to the point of being unwilling to fight or as though they've been mocked by their closest friends, causing them to frenzy on both friend and foe. Which course the spell takes depends on the target's personality; those that are calm generally take the former, and those that are more insecure and angry are liable to take the latter. It can only affect one target at a time, and lasts for up to three posts followed by a two-post cool-down.
- Silence of the Lamb -
Another effect-type spell, Silence of the Lamb prevents the target from using any type of magic, including Soul Resonances and weapon shifting, for two posts. However, the Soul Resonance block becomes less effective against high-level meisters and is ineffective against Death Weapons. It can only affect one target at a time and has a one-post cool-down.
- The Shepherd -
The last of her effect-type spell and perhaps her favourite one of the three, The Shepherd creates a field about ten feet around Guinevere. Anyone caught within that field undergoes a calming effect, and some even become more likely to listen to her and follow any commands she may give, though of course it has its limits (nothing violent). Less effective against other Witches and Kishin. It affects however many people are within that radius and lasts for about three turns, with a four-post cool-down.
Performance: Though typically a pacifist by choice, Guinevere can fight, and will do so if in the protection of another or forced into a corner by an attacker. And although she isn't the most practiced in battle (anymore, at least), her abilities are nothing to underestimate. Luckily enough, she, more often than not, does not aim to kill or even seriously injure most of her opponents; only the wicked are able to gain such wrath from her. She tends to rely heavily on her magic, particularly the effect spells when defending herself, though she has some skill with old weaponry, namely blades.
When she is attacked by someone or something, she either hits just hard and fast enough to stun/temporarily incapacitate her opponent or drags it out as long as possible so that she may tire them out. Either way, her goal is merely to get away. The only way to get her to instigate a fight is to attack the weak, in protection of whom she is liable to become more ruthless if the attacker is a person, as only the wicked would attack someone weaker than they. In those instances, she uses the logic that if she defeats or even kills them now, they won't be able to harm anyone else. This side is mostly only seen by Kishin and other Witches.
In short, even though Guin is a timid thing, she is bold and fearsome when roused to protect someone else, particularly when it comes to the young. While other people may have strong offensive magic and weaponry, Guin is skilled with spells that control emotions and has godly tenacity hidden behind her meager appearance.
