The darkness vanished as the dull footsteps entered the room. The lights flashed on, blinding Soul. He blinked hard and then managed to look around. There were other students here, most of which he didn't know. He caught Maka's eyes as she looked desperately at him. Did she know more than him? Surely not.
That's when he focused on the front of the room, a light cough from a woman. Medusa. "Medusa!" Almost in an instant he heard Maka shout out the witch's name. What was Maka doing? They were in a terrible position and she was just shouting at the Witch?
"Welcome, to the DWMA. I'm sure you all know the place very well. The thing is, this place is no longer your safe haven." Medusa spoke calmly, every word rolling off her snake-like tongue. "This night is a special one. You've all been taken from your homes in your sleep to participate in a special game."
Everyone stared at her, some with their mouths gaping wide and others staring in disbelief. "What are you talking about freak?!" A voice called out from the back of the room. There was a single scream, and within seconds, Ravian Mysla was dead on the floor, a vector arrow through his heart. Nobody said anything, only stared at the pool of blood gathering on the floor around Ravian's body.
"This could happen to any one of you, if you don't watch yourselves. You're here to play a game. You'll all be given weapons, and you won't know what you end up with. Each of you will have five minutes to clear out this hallway after receiving your weapon. If you do not, you will end up like the Mylsa boy over there." Medusa was smirking, smirking at the prospect that every one of them would die. All of them but one.
"You will each be pitted against one another, and forced to kill each other. The last one standing will be freed and sent home safely. At the end of every night or day, you will hear Eruka over the intercom. The deaths for each day will be announced as well as the new off-limits location. You will receive ten minutes to exit the location. If you do not make your leave in time, you'll be killed."
"B-but... what w-what if n-nobody is k-killing?" a quiet voice, belonging to Ethan Redd spoke out in the background. "That reminds me," the witch smirked even broader now. "If nobody dies before sunrise, you'll all be killed. Each of you have explosive collars on your neck that will explode if you head out the front steps of the DWMA. Trying to pull at them will also end you up dead."
Shilo couldn't believe what he was hearing! He couldn't kill Stephanie, and he couldn't simply take his own life. The only thing was to hope that he was killed before Stephanie had a chance to kill herself for him. "So come up, in alphabetical order and choose a pack. Oh, and I wouldn't form alliances. You'll have to break them, won't you?"
Medusa called out the first name, Beck Adler. The timid boy stood up and headed towards the front. He stared at the floor, making sure not to make eye contact with Medusa or her comrades. He snatched a small pack off the table and scurried out of the room as fast as he could.
The next name was Maka Albarn. She stared at Medusa with pure hate, then snatched a pack off the table. She looked hopefully at Soul, and he nodded back. It was as if communicating a location to meet. With that, Maka hurried out of the room.
The names were called, and each student retrieved a pack, hesitantly or with pure excitement in their eyes. The final name, Ernest Tesla was called, and he groaned at having the smallest pack left. "Five minutes!" Eruka's voice echoed over the intercom, and Ernest scurried down the hall, making haste.
Stephanie turned another corner, and noticed a small pool of some wet substance. The darkness made it hard to tell the color, but she knew it was coming from the Janitor's closet. She pulled open the door and her eyes flew open wide. Inside the closet was the dead body of Jean Chevalier. Someone was actually playing this game! There was a hole through the left side of Jean's chest, as if he had been shot through the heart. That's when it occurred to her that the killed could still be close by, as they were only a half hour into the game. She ran as fast as she could, still having not opened her pack.
Jack was pleased. The only way he could save his meister was with a good weapon, and he had one. He admired the large machine gun. He was glad he had taken the largest backpack on the table at this point. He'd already killed off one kid, and he wasn't going to stop there. He would kill everyone for his meister. It was almost insane really, but he wouldn't lose this for her.
The mummy boy was pissed. He turned the butterknife over in his hands. What the hell was he supposed to do with this? Butter someone to death, he thought not! He found a safe haven for now, a small classroom. Sadly enough, the room was empty, no chairs, desks or anything that could be remotely useful. He hid in the corner, lying in wait for anyone, and he nearly died again when the door clicked open. What the hell was he supposed to do with a butterknife?!
He studied the person who entered the room to the best of his ability. It appeared to be a girl, fairly old, old enough for him to kill anyway, if he could. He took aim, and then threw the butterknife at the girl's heart, though it didn't quite make it. It punctured her arm, though she pulled it out and stuffed it into her bag, and then stared with daggers at the direction it was thrown from. She raised a shimmering weapon that shined in the moonlight, and Ramuh only had a moment to think a single though. Axe. He was dead in seconds.

Maka was shaking with fear on the inside, but she could never show it. What would happen to her, to Soul? She would never have the chance... to live a life with him, to make him a death scythe. To do anything, and she would never have the chance to tell him how she felt. That's when she heard the footsteps.
She gripped her hand tight around the long sickle. She was thankful, at least, that she'd gotten a weapon that was at least similar to Soul's shape, in terms of the blade. She stared at the person emerging from the shadows, and then smiled with delight. She dropped her sickle to the ground and wrapped her arms around Soul's neck. "Soul. We we-"
She stopped short, and Soul looked at her, or tried to. Blood splattered onto his face, coming out of Maka's mouth. "Maka!" He looked over her shoulder to see Ethan Redd, gun in hand. Soul took the only weapon he had, a throwing knife and threw it at the boy, hitting him straight through the heart. "I-I c-c-can't d-die..." He muttered, and then his body fell limp to the floor. He had killed out of utter fear, the madness of it all had overtaken him.
Soul moved, scooping up Maka's body. "Maka! Hang on, I won't lose you! I'm not letting go!" He hurried over, and looked with dismay at the weapon, a pistol. The bullet was lodged firmly in Maka's lower back. It wouldn't be fatal if he could remove the bullet, but how on earth would he do that?
That's when Maka did something unexpected. She pushed her lips onto his, and for a second, he gasped. But then kissed her back. He pulled away after a few seconds. "Soul. If I... I don't make it. You have to. You have to win for us, Soul." "Shut up Maka! I'm not letting you die here!" He wrenched the knife out of Ethan's chest, then dug it into Maka's back.
She wanted to scream, she wanted to shout, but she knew if she wanted to protect Soul, she couldn't make a sound, so she let a single tear drip down her face before she stopped herself. He finally pulled the blade out, the bullet wiggling free from her skin. Soul ripped open his bag, removing the bandage, the only one he had, and wrapped it quickly around Maka's lower back, then fastened it.
"Hang on Maka...."
Somewhere on the other side of the school, Tsubaki was worrying. Why hadn't she gone with Black*Star? If she had, she would still be there, to be his weapon partner, and now she knew she was going to die. All she had was Crona, and she barely knew him, and doubted he would be helpful, especially with Ragnarok screaming up and down the halls.
It was the middle of the day now, actually, somewhere around three o'clock and Tsubaki had eaten nothing but half of a roll from her bag. How would she ever manage to get out of this? Surely she would lose her life, because it was what was best for everyone. That's when she heard someone round the corner.
"Crona! Run!" She shouted, and threw her pack at Ragnarok, who caught it, but was still fairly angry at her for throwing it at him. Crona looked at her, and she mouthed the word go, and so Crona ran as fast as he could, not looking back.
Tsubaki turned around, and only had enough time to see the baseball bat hit her across the side of the head. "Stop!" She called out, and her body crumpled to the floor. She tried to move away, but the young boy who stood over her raised the bat up and dove it down into her skull, cracking it open and piercing through her brain. Shilo smirked, almost devilishly.
The boy had gone insane, willing to do anything to protect his girlfriend, to get her out safely, to take care of their child. She would not die. Not while Shilo was still alive, and this had caused him to go completely insane with bloodlust, the want to kill everyone. He turned, and a voice came over the intercom.
"This is Eruka.... Ribbit! So, let's see~ The deaths for today are as follows: Jean Chevalier, Ramuh Iah, Ravian Mysla, Ethan Redd, Tsubaki Nakatsukasa. Oh, and the top two floors of the DWMA is now off limits! Good luck~!" Eruka laughed, and in an instant the intercom was off.
Kaylin hurried off the top floor, trying to fight off any coming tears, though she wasn't one for crying anyway. She rushed for the nearest stairwell, and ran as fast as she could. She wouldn't compete on a regular basis, just to win, but now she had a motive. She would track down Ethan's killer and avenge his death. She would and she wouldn't give up until they were dead, even if she didn't know who it was.
She barely made it to the safe zone until she heard the explosion above her. The entire top of the DWMA blew up, and with it, the body of Tyler Gilligan. The girl had not decided which way to go, and her entire body froze with fear as the entire explosion blew her body to pieces.
Beck was crying. He sat in the corner and cried, with Kerria next to him. "It's okay Beck. We can find a way out of this!" He wasn't crying for that reason. He was crying because he knew what tomorrow was. He would kill everyone in the school without Shinigami sending him those mysterious drinks. Sure, he would survive, but he would probably live alone for the rest of his life, crying over his misdeeds.
"Kerria. Y-you n-need to l-leave me!" Kerria didn't understand, she didn't know the little boy was a werewolf, and she didn't know how much he wanted to eat her, even though it wasn't even nighttime yet. The cravings always started during the day. "I don't understand..." He put his hand on her arm and then pulled her off the ground. "P-please. I c-can't k-kill you, K-kerria." Kerria wasn't ready to leave him, but the boy shoved her away and ran in the opposite direction with his bag. She wouldn't see him again.
That's when she saw Maxine Fisher round the corner. "Kerria!" She ran towards the girl, completely forgetting what she was holding in her hands. She grabbed Kerria in a tight hug, but her body fell limp. Kerria fell to the floor, a pool of blood gathering around her. It took Maxine a moment to realize she had been holding her stake, and had driven it through Kerria's heart. Her energetic personality had overtaken her, and the joy of seeing someone she could trust had flooded out her good judgement. "What... what have I done?!"
