Kai-Lan knew she needed some fresh air, desperately. She wasn't originally going to go anywhere on her Saturday, especially since she was just wearing a t-shirt and shorts instead of her usual, very hidden, black, and armoured, ninja gear. And yet, it was such a nice day out, she couldn't resist nature's call. That's how she ended up wandering to the park.
Lan plopped down on the grass and blinked at the bright sunlight. It sure was hot out- hotter than she thought it would be. It wasn't a smart move, wearing a black t-shirt on a day like this. She just couldn't get the ninja out of her, she supposed, even if it was a weekend and not a weekday, in which she was fully dressed and armoured, ready for the school day.
She still hadn't found a weapon partner yet, and she was worried that she wouldn't. Lan was friendly enough, that was certain, but for some reason the other kids distanced themselves from her to a certain extent. That bothered her a little bit, and Lan felt slightly hurt by that, and lonely, what was more.
Either way, it was a pleasant day in the park, and she was sure to find something enjoyable to do, even if she was alone doing it. She stretched out on the grass, arms folded behind her head like a pillow, and closed her eyes, her silky black hair, which was down, cascading around her face. Kai-Lan was more at ease now than she'd been in a long while.

Kyle took a single step onto the grass, he felt fresh and confident today, because he had developed a newer potion; currently unnamed, the potion numbed the stimulus completely for 10 minutes, currently in stock of 2, because the ingredients... there are some side effects, and too much complexity to explain vaguely. Kyle had drank the potion earlier, about 8 minutes ago.
The ambitious Kyle waltzed through the site, looking around for a minute before he spotted it; a pot of scolding cold water, setting on the table. It's use was unknown, but it was assumingly public due to the sign that literally said, "Scolding Cold Water".
He quickly approached it, and dunked his hand into the bowl at will, the feeling of pain and chills ran through his hand. He didn't pull out, it was awful, but he didn't yell, pull back, or shake -- He just felt extremely cold.
Best not get frost bite, so Kyle pulled out his hand with ease and whipped his hand, slightly drying it. He dried his hand with a nearby cloth, and continued his short walk through the park -- Then he noticed Kai-Lan, in a short tee shirt and pair of shorts, sitting in the grass a distance away. Kyle hastily jogged away from the small building that he originally tested his potion at, and arrived near her sooner than later, Kyle had amazing cardio for a weapon.
Something about Kai attracted her to him, but he couldn't place his mind onto why, and just went with his muse, and introduced himself with a smirk, and a tap of his right shoe onto the grass casually.
"'Eya, whatsup?"
Unlike Kai-Lan, he wore a blue trench coat, a white, long sleeve shirt, and long, loose khaki pants, along with a set of goggles, currently above his eyes. He was perfectly comfortable.

Lan opened her eyes almost lazily. She'd heard Kyle approach, of course, but hadn't bothered to look. She could sense that whoever it was wasn't dangerous, and was fully prepared to ignore them if they hadn't spoken to her.
"Oh," she said, unable to hold back the smile forming on her lips. It wasn't often that someone would actually speak to her. "Hello."
She reckognised this boy, but couldn't put a name to the face. She knew vaguely who he was, though, and felt bad for not remembering his name. She gave in to the smile and grinned sheepishly.
"Ah, sorry. Who're you again? I have such a bad memory! I'm sorry." she looked a bit upset with herself. She sat up, as she realized laying on her back on the grass while talking to someone was rather awkward, and ran a hand through her hair. There were a few pieces of grass stuck whimsically throughout her hair, making it look a bit unkempt. Kai-Lan shook her head, trying to remove the grass.
She was glad she'd spoken only English for several years now, for her Chinese accent was not as evident as it had used to be when she'd started. She was always a bit self-conscious of not being American like most of the Shibusen kids.

kyle had a brief second pause, even though she was practically a stranger, it was ego-crushing for someone to adress them as if they were so dull they forgot their name. He thought as if a million words passed through his mind in just that second, but he compromised; he had to be flamboyant with his character, and shout out his personality! ~THAT'S HOW KYLE ROLLS!~
Kyle quickly, theoretically towered above Kai as he thrusted his hand up to the sky, an angsty smile and his fist to the sky, he contently boasted with ego and glee,
"Kyle Lynn! Remember that name!" He announced, lowering his arm hastily to point at Kai-Lan, his finger up in her personal space. He retracted his point to give her a thumbs up, and a glinting wink. "I'll pierce the heavens one day"
Reference
He sounded outgoing and persistent, but he was more or less a shut in, working on chemicals, browsing the web, and listening to underrated music.
List of bands that Kyle probably listens to: Dobie gray Uncle Kracker Thousand Foot Krutch Dance Gavin Dance A Day To remember
You probably don't like his taste in music. Nobody does, as an estimation.

Kai-Lan blinked at this suddenness, and then began to laugh. It was a soft, shy, tinkling sound. She hadn't laughed in a long time; it sounded as if she weren't used to it yet. Many people laughed constantly, but Lan had nothing to really laugh about, being alone as she was. She smiled up at Kyle, and she glowed with happiness.
"I promise, I won't forget. It's nice to meet you, Kyle." Kyle may be small for his age, one might say, but Lan was also rather short and had a very small frame. She stood at only about five-foot three, though she was incredibly strong for her size. That was a common misconception that people made- small stature equals weakness. Lan was a perfect example of the fact that that stereotype was completely false.
"So, then..." she started thoughtfully, "You act as if you own the world, but your soul doesn't say that about you at all. You don't usually act like this, do you? Or maybe you do. But you are more comfortable in the world of experiments and science, aren't you?"
She said this bluntly but knowledgeably, as Kai-Lan was good at sensing traits about others. Sometimes she could be completely off, but that was rare. She didn't do it to make herself seem unlikeable... rather, she just wanted to see how well she knew a person and learn more about them. it was fun for her. Interesting. Enjoyable.

Kyle's angsty smirk slowly fell to a content frown, he folded his arm and scowled. He didn't like it when people defined him instead of letting him express himself. He quickly brought back a straight face -- Kyle was pansexual with love interests, and Kai-Lan's personality didn't exactly make him attracted to her as much as he thought it would.
"Don't tell me who I am." He said sternly, he felt some remorse for being more unfriendly to her now, but let his actions take hold of his impression; he's not one to be different for someone else, and he probably wouldn't start that charade anytime soon.
Kyle swept his goggled over his eyes, the tint of the pair glinted in the sunlight and glistened with vintage -- He abruptly guffawed, throwing his head back as he laughed confidently, tossing his head in her direction, shoving his hands into his pockets enthusiastically.
"Tell me who you are!" he said with a nice, inviting tone. It was confident, and friendly, despite his stern, hostile tone he used earlier. If their were traits about Kai-Lan he would enjoy so much, he wanted to learn about them!
Somehow, he felt the urge to show off his artisan profession; alchemy, but he held back his urge and waited a reply, showing his teeth with his grand smile. He had regularly perfected teeth, nicely white and strong. He also began to wonder why he initiated conversation with a stranger, but his outer expression totally begged to differ with his thoughts.

Lan looked downward, afraid she'd ruined it. The one time someone had actually spoken to her, and she'd blown it! She was hoping that the two could be friends, but nothing could happen like that to her anymore. The only "friends" she'd ever had were gone now, and that was years ago anyway.
"I'm sorry," she said, with a rather worried and upset expression, "I didn't mean to offend you. Please forgive me." She looked back up at Kyle and took a deep, cleansing breath. No need to get upset. Then, he asked her a question. He seemed cheerful again; that was good. Perhaps her apology had done the trick?
"Me...?" she asked hesitantly. No one had ever asked her about herself before. This was strange; she hadn't been expecting this turnout. She was lucky, that was certain to her now: She blessed her good fortune and continued.
"Ah, well... as you probably already know, my name's Kai-Lan. Xing Kai-Lan, Xing is my last name. And, er... there's nothing to really tell about me. I'm skilled in martial arts and Alkahestry. I'm from China, though you probably already know this, too... And... I suppose that's about it." she finished, giving a little shrug. "Oh..." she said, a sudden thought occurring to her, "Do you know about Alkahestry?"

Kyle contently nodded at the relaying events, pausing a second at the relaying of events. Of course he knew what an alkehest was, being an alchemist these things are improbable not to know about. More or less, Kyle thought it was necessary for a lot of people, but not so much him; it's obvious he's used his chemical experiments on him countless times, he's probably lucky he's not green-skinned and has lactating eyes, or something else monstrosity-like.
Kyle nodded, calmly infering her of his take on Alkehestry, "So you're a medic, then."
Infact, in theory their opposites. As to where Kyle works on improving his physical being and eventually witch-like longevity through Alchemy, he's a weapon. Kai-Lan is an Alkehest, making elixers to heal others, she's a meister.
Actually, Kyle is AWFUL with teamwork too, he works well as a solo weapon, but he's too boisterously friendly that he still wants a Meister, here there's the possibility he'd want to do all the fighting for his partner, this could make resonating a longer practice than regular Weapon and Meister teams.
Maybe you could say it was worth it, because Kyle has a very nice weapon form, a SPAS12 Shotgun, and it can be overkill if used like such. If he wasn't a SPAS12, I bet he'd be something dumbfounded like a Rocket Launcher, or Railgun.
Kyle's goggles glinted blissfully again, as Kyle confidently boasted, with a content but serious tone. "I'm an artisan alchemist." He said, hiding his interest and excitement inside the bottom of his heart, he had yet to meet someone who had a similar profession to him besides his father.

ooc: Yep, that's what I was goin' for! Good job. *nods* FMA is a win!
Kai-Lan nodded happily, and smiled at the outcome. It was so exciting that Kyle actually knew about Alkehestry! Not many people did, unless they were alchemists or alkehests themselves. "Yes, exactly!" she said cheerfully, her smile growing wider. "You could call it that." she said, more thoughtful in her statement this time. She wondered how Kyle knew about alkehestry, but her question wasn't long unanswered, for his next statement answered it.
"I'm an artisan alchemist." He looked fairly excitable and confident as he said this, which made Lan smile even more. How perfect, that he would have a profession similar to hers! Well, she wouldn't exactly call it a "profession", but it was close to it.
"That's amazing!" she said, glowing and eyes sparkling. "I don't know much about alchemy, though I suppose it's similar to Alkehestry... so in that sense, I do. But, my main knowledge is only in Alkehestry."
After she said this, Lan's stomach growled softly. Then again, a bit louder. She blushed a little but then frowned. "Ahh, I'm starving...." she said, in a long-suffering voice. "I need some food. What about you?"
Lan had a very high metabolism, and because of that, she was often hungry, even if she had already eaten several meals. Having a high metabolism also meant that she didn't really gain weight from all the food she ate. Her stomach growled again, this time even louder. Yeah, it was time to eat again.

Kyle wasn't exactly a heavy eater himself, but if he actually did go out to eat at all anymore he would've treated her, despite still being rather strangers. Kyle ran his hand through his blue hair smoothly, sighing through his nose; this was probably their parting point, he strongly disliked going to restaurants to eat, and always cooked at home for himself, he was pretty difficult with this.
"... -- I don't eat out, at all. I prefer to cook my own food." He said contently, with a serious tone, though he tried to sound as polite as that could. Inviting strangers to your house to make them food sounds REALLY CREEPY, not to say that kyle isn't creepy sometimes. Kyle restrained from asking any further questions, and instead removed his goggles from his eyes, and let them rest atop his forehead.
"Maybe we'll meet again." He said politely, even though deep inside his greedy feeling, he wanted to stick around with Kai-Lan. Alas though, Kyle is a tad bit too shy with keeping company around, because he doesn't want to appear clingy. Kyle ruffled his hair again, gazing up to the sky to look at the clouds, then back down to Kai with a content, straight face. He was waiting for her to get up and leave, like most strangers would probably do.

Kai-Lan's face brightened at Kyle's statement. "You can cook?" she asked, standing up excitably. "How well? I mean, does it taste good?" she prodded, eyes sparkling with excitement.
If he could cook well, she'd probably just mooch off him. There was nothing Lan liked more than home-cooked meals. She could go for some rice, though, and she doubted Kyle owned a rice-cooker. Though, maybe she was wrong, maybe he did. If he didn't, she could always invite him over to cook for her, and then he could use her rice-cooker. But of course, then she'd seem lazy (not that she wasn't), and rude, of all things.
And she didn't want him to think she was rude. At the same time, thoughts of being fed and having someone cook for her sounded pretty darn good as they flew around her head. Yes, she'd take the risk.
"'cause, if you can cook, you should make me some food." OOC: Yeah, don't worry about it. Do you see my post? Shameful. D:

Kyle blinked, his face dropping do a dread, and despair. There was only one thing Kyle thought Kai-Lan was interested in him about.
He new how to cook.
He felt like he would get nothing out of being Kai-Lan's personal chef. Ever. So he grew a scornful face after a second pause, and backed away slowly, keeping his posture as he glared daggers at her; ready to leave abruptly anytime.
"No. I cook for myself." He said sternly, with shun in his tone. Yes, he did know how to cook. He could cook a good meal, and display it too, but this was probably the only excel he neglected, and prefered not to do for other people. In fact, he at first had his hopes that she would keep the meet engaging, but after it happened he felt no more muse, and instead scorned her.
Kyle backed away again, he wanted to go home and take a shower. He usually does that when he has some kind of dread or offsetting. He probably would've gone back to his profession, or take a nap. He could be a shut in, but going outside is too engaging for him at Death City.
"Who do you think I am?" He questioned with a shunful and disappointed attitude. He felt more easy to forgive than he really looked, but right now he didn't acknowledge his feigned I HATE YOUR FACE-like hatred.

Kai-Lan frowned slightly, and then sighed. She forced a smile, but she was a bit taken aback. She hadn't meant for him to be a slave or anything, she just wanted to know if he'd make some food. She loved to try other people's food. Oh well, if he was going to be that way, she'd just have to deal with it. Keeping the forced smile on her face, Lan said, ever-so-delicately,
"Kyle." she tested the name, and then continued, "I'm sorry if I offended you. I have a rice-cooker at home, and I can cook as well- though only simple, mostly Chinese meals. If you're interested, I could bring some food for a picnic and meet you here in a little while. I suppose you'd rather do that than come to my house... and it's the only way I can repay you for offending you so." as she slipped back into her old customs, Lan gave a little bow, her hair sweeping down around her face. She took a piece of cloth that was tied around her neck and used it to tie her hair up in the bun that she always wore. Her face looked determined, like always, and she was no longer wearing the fake smile.
"The power to be strong, the wisdom to be wise... these are all answers we seek, aren't they?" she said thoughtfully, not really expecting an answer to this odd and absentminded question. It was random, as were her thoughts on occasion. "Lift your spirits, and your feet, and you'll reach your goals. Isn't that right?"
Lan smiled a little, and this time it was true. Her eyes sparkled with even more determination now. Talking to Kyle had made her realize something important, and that was that she couldn't stall herself by worrying about others or their opinions of her. She wouldn't find a weapon partner that way, after all.
She wouldn't deny that she was hurt by Kyle's stepping away from her when she asked about food.
She wouldn't deny that having no friends hurt her.
She wouldn't back down. She'd keep the determination in her heart, and live longer and happier for it.

Kyle listened at peak perspective, he sparked inside his mind, and listened to her preach, and her dialogue. He only thought one thing to himself:
... No. That's not how I roll. I should tell her how I do.
Kyle dropped his scorned face, and instead spread a angsty smirk. He whipped his hand to the sky, his index finger firing at the sky. He let out his boisterous speech, a confident and stubborn, yet mused and excited.
"With every step there is no decline: No matter how I turn and no matter how I proceed I will NOT stop my prosperity. Nobody can convince me how to live, and no one can stop me! That's how I am!"
Kyle abruptly flipped backwards, standing much like a sink when his hands represented a stand, and hw spun his legs blissfully. His feet met the ground as his upper half spun to the height like a cartwheel, and Kyle guffawed with even more muse, and boisterously continued.
"If you want to tell me otherwise, I'll only become greater. I am independent, and I feel even more unique when they think I am false!"
Kyle paused, a frozen stance with a feigned greatness. Now he felt a little out of social activity, and neglected his proceeding. Kyle spun around and contently began walking the other way. Spontaneously he was on his way to his apartment, and didn't bother to watch her reaction.
"I'm going home. It's getting a little melancholy."
Kyle was about a few yards away now, hands in pockets yet again, he really wanted to go lounge at home, he most definitely ignored the cook-related part of Kai's speech.

A sad smile flitted over Lan's face. She knew it was no use, so why did she try so hard? She plopped back down on the grass, her eyes glazed over with a liquid not too foreign for her. She blinked, but the liquid didn't leave. It had no reason to. She glanced over at Kyle, watching him walk away. Another friend- or potential friend, rather- gone. She wondered what she was going to do now. She may as well just sit on the grass, like she had been.
Lan was determined. She wouldn't chase after Kyle. It was obvious he had no interest in being friends or her weapon- not that that particular subject had come up- and that was fine with her. She was used to it now. He probably just was trying to pass the time before he went somewhere else, and passed it by talking to her. She didn't care anymore. All she'd do throughout life was get hurt more and more, so why not just paint on a suit of armor around herself, to shield herself from such emotions?
Kai-Lan lay back down on the grass in her original position, hands behind her head in a sort of pillow or cradle. As she looked up at the blue sky, and at the clouds, she wondered when the pain would stop. She had always been alone, after all, so why had she ever thought that this would be any different? Moving to a different place, halfway across the world... as if that would make any difference.
She'd been stupid to think it would, truly unintelligent. Lan had always been alone, and now she feared she'd be that way forever. Perhaps being alone wasn't so bad. Once you stopped expecting it to change... maybe then the loneliness would go away forever. Maybe it was only when you had your heart set on nothing that the hurt would go away.
Maybe that was it. If it made the pain leave, she'd certainly be willing to try it.
